Grandparents Fight Back is a nonpartisan network of American grandparents who are deeply concerned about the destruction of our democracy and the rejection of values essential to a good and thriving America by the Administration of Donald Trump. For the sake of our grandchildren’s futures, we have joined together to raise our voices to fight back, through calls and letters to government representatives and officials, the media and others with influence, identification and support of allies, participation in demonstrations, and other appropriate actions.
We hold these values to be essential American values:
Adherence to the rule of law
This includes respect for the roles of each branch of our government; adherence to domestic laws and the Constitution; adherence to international laws and treaties that America has adopted or signed; commitment to a nonpartisan, impartial administration of justice by U.S. government agencies; and respect for our courts.
Respect for America’s basic freedoms
This includes, among others, the right to vote; equal rights as determined by the 14th Amendment to the Constitution and the courts; and freedom of expression of individuals and of the media without punitive retaliation for critical coverage.
Equal opportunity for all Americans to thrive
Honesty, including respect for known facts, for science and for truthfully reporting government activities to the public and the press
Expertise and quality in the leadership and staffing of federal agencies and institutions
Ethics in government operations, including intolerance for conflicts of interest and corruption
Compassion toward immigrants and respect for their rights
As a nation of immigrants, we recognize that immigrants have been and continue to be essential contributors to everything that has made America great. We respect the right of people to claim asylum under national and international law. We treat with compassion people fleeing hunger, violence and persecution.
Recognition of our responsibilities in the world, for both humanitarian and national security reasons
This includes our obligation to help address poverty, disease, hunger, discrimination and other ills around the world, and to take action to combat climate change and address other environmental challenges.
Respect for the dignity of all people
This includes treating all people, including people of diverse backgrounds, abilities and points of view, with respect and decency.
